Don's visit to Dallas and Pottsboro Texas, Tulsa and Oklahoma City 16th - 31st May 2006.

I will not have as much access to a Computer on this years vacation as I will be travelling about more but I will endeavour to keep ya'll updated on my visit as much as possible.
The current itinerary for my visit this year is:
16 May to USA (LGW to DFW) ETA 14.30 staying to 19 May in North Texas (Nr Dallas);
19 to 21 May at the "Southern Hills Marriott" Tulsa;
21 to 31 May at the "Holiday Inn" Oklahoma City;
Travel back to the UK on the 31 May Dep 16.20 (DFW to LGW) ETA 07.20 1st June.
Note: UK time is 6 hours ahead of my USA time.
16 May - Arrived safely half an hour ahead of time, on the plane I saw the Latest King Kong film - sorry movie! also Breakback Mountain. Had a nice car ride from Fort Dallas Airport to Pottsboro a town quite near the vast Lake Texoma on the famous "Red River", the state line between Texas and Oklahoma. We had large steamed King Prawn with dips etc for dinner. Weather lovely and warm.
18 May - Had really lovely two days driving around, or rather being driven around - went into Oklahoma just across the State border line and Red River from Texas. Looked in a coupla "Geetar" stores, very interesting. Lovely flat countryside - can see for miles and across the prairies with the horse stables and all the racing horses in stud and grazeing with their young offsprings.
Temperature reaching just above 90 deg F, nice dry heat and tolerable, went out to dinner last night with two lovely Daughters of Linda's, had a big pile of fried large prawn, french fries and mashed squash with iced Tea, which is drank a lot out here. Today we are off on a 2-3 hour journey to Tulsa for the weekend at the big Oklahoma State Convention until Sunday when I go to Downtown Oklahoma City for the remainder of my Vacation.
Not sure when I will be able to get to use a PC again but please just watch this space. Byeeeeeee for now.
05 June St Albans.
Well here I am having arrived safely back home last Thursday after an interesting and fun packed holiday with my friends chauffeuring me about. I did have a chance to access the Internet at Toni’s house but decided against it, as I know me! and I would have been on it far to long and thus missing out on visiting the many places in OK. We left Pottsboro Texas on the Friday 19th May for Tulsa visiting the 5 Civilized Tribes Museum in Muskogee which are the Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, Cherokee, and Seminole Indian Tribes, also saw the Rose Garden in the adjoining beautiful and spacious park. In McAlester we stopped for a lovely Italian meal at Gia Como’s.
Had a lovely relaxing weekend in Tulsa, seeing Fellowship friends including several who recognised me from the previous two Conferences which was nice, over 900 had registered by the Sunday. We visited the lovely, clean open tree lined Malls in Tulsa, I remembered 2 years ago when Jerry E kindly took me out round Tulsa on the same Saturday afternoon. Linda's other Daughter and Family from North OK came to visit us in the Hotel, we used the Hotel swimming pool and then all went out for a nice Chinese Buffet.
Had a good trip with Linda to Oklahoma City after the Conference, booked into my Hotel then meeting friends in the evening for a super Chinese Buffet. The majority of my days were an early start either me getting a taxi to Bricktown in OK city or, more usually, being collected and taken out for the day. During my stay I visited the lovely Botanical Gardens, Fire Museum, had a quick drive round the 45th Infantry Division Museum and also had several nice walks round the canal which also served as a water taxi and laid on tourist trips. Went to a real American cookout day where there were numerous chuck wagons with lots of different samples of food, Beans, Beef Stew, Soup, Chicken and Brisket Steak, Cornbread and various sweet puddings, the cooking was done in specially dug fire pits. Practised Horseshoe throwing and sat in on several live Western music Concerts.
On another day I visited one of my friends who works in the Homicide Division in the OK County District Attorney's Office and I sat in on a Manslaughter case, very interesting.
Also visited the National Cowboy Museum and the newly opened, in Nov 2005, Oklahoma History Center, which was really marvellous with all the history of Oklahoma from the Indian era to the present day. Went to see a Baseball match, it was the Big 12 Baseball championship at Bricktown Ballpark and was the first game of the day starting at 10.00 am. I now know a lot more about the rules of Baseball and am indebted to Johnny B for his very patient tuition. On one day the Temperature was 97 deg which broke previous records in OK for that time of year. At the end of each day we ate at various Restaurants ie Indian, Chinese, American, Mexican, Fish and Shellfood (Red Lobster and Pearls), various Steak, and Hamburger Restaurants – Wot-a-Burger, Sonic etc, we kept out of the many MacDonald’s for some reason!!! also had a real full American cooked breakfast early one morning at the renowned Cracker Barrel Retaurant then later a lovely meal in the very classy! Museum Retaurant in the City centre, thank you Shelba and Arlene and musn't forget to mention the huge steak meal at The Cattleman's Restaurant in "Cowboy City" plus the visit to Langston's to get myself more Wrangler Jeans etc.
All in all I don’t think I could have visited more places if I had been with an organized Tour Holiday and to which I am most grateful for the very kind generosity and hospitality of my good Texan and Oklahoman friends, some of whom I met during my stay this year for the first time.
